“Wafers” (2009)
Photographs in this series depict large-scale wafers, which are treated with special anointing in the Christian tradition and belong to the sacred sphere. Here the wafers become a blank canvas, a neutral white plane ready to be drawn on. The drawings, done with a ballpoint pen, are nonchalant, casual, as if resulting from boredom. Next, the following pieces are photographed and enlarged to over two meter-high prints. Through this rescaling, the works acquire a completely different overtone, it uncovers significant omissions in iconography and the naivety of depictions related to the cult of saints.
